So the French (our French not your French) will soon be having a fire sale on pre 1997 Cars. May I suggest this fabulous looking Ferrari...
design that Peugeot made into the 406 after they convinced Pininfarina to sell it to them after Ferrari rejected it.

I dunno if I like it or hate it. Mostly I’m just annoyed that people think everything Pininfarina design is solid gold.

Seconded. And I say this as the owner of one of these machines. It’s been my daily driver for about 3.5 years now.
Not a fan of those wheels though. If you’re getting non-stock wheels, at least get actual Peugeot wheels. My actual car pictured. I will need to take some decent pictures of that car soon.

Obviously not all Pininfarina stuff is solid gold. But the 406 Coupe, I heart it.
Duurtlang has one and I’m constantly jealous of it.

To be honest I think there are overrated but then I’ve always been a Zagato man myself. I love their wacky nonsense.

As opposed to fake Ferrari wheels. Also I’ve only ever seen them in lighter colours and I must say, they look better in darker ones.

If someone would kindly purchase one of these and care for it for me I will happly take it off your hands in 2023.

Count me in as a Pininfarina-man though. I own 3 of the buggers. Besides the 406 coupe there’s the pre-facelift 306 convertible and the 205 CTi. I lust after a 504 coupe.

Never driven a 306 but the 106 GTI is fucking fantastic. Shame most of them either rusted away or were crashed by Fast and Furious shitlarks.

Car Guy - Twingo Tamer found a 504 pickup for sale near us recently, £350 if I remember correctly, bright orange. I’m fairly sure it would’ve needed a lot of work, but I was half-tempted. You’re right though, the coupe is the pretty version, especially with a gentle yellow tint in those front lamps.

I don’t know about standard 306s (I have a feeling they are shit) but this is a 306 Maxi kit car. It’s an F2 spec rally car built for the French (and other countries) regional championship. It also nearly won the tour de course in 1997.

+1 for shitlark

Mmmmmmm.
But when it comes with 90s French cars, I’d have a Xantia.
Sure, it’s the most boring hydraulic suspension Citroen. But I like it.

Peugeot do know how to make a rally car. Heck they’re so good, blokes in their sheds can do it too.

Air? What is this heresy against the great church of leaking Citroen hydraulic suspension systems.
![]() 05/31/2016 at 18:59 |

The 406 is actually based (platform, the early engines) on the Xantia. It doesn’t share its suspension though. Both are actually quite underrated cars that can reach very high odometer readings without much hassle.

I do love a Peugeot 406 Coupe. Super cheap prices at the moment too.

Woops.

I would look but given it has more than 2 seats and thus way too expensive to insure, I would just get depressed.

Did they sell that in the U.S.?
![]() 05/31/2016 at 19:10 |

Nope. America’s been Frenchless for a long time.

In what way does the number of seats impact the insurance rate where you are? I don’t live in the UK and am not particularly young, but it’s not expensive to insure for me. Roughly €30 a month is what I pay, and that’s with an LPG tank which makes it more likely it’s a car that’s driven a lot (and it is).
The 406 coupe is a 2+2 by the way, a strict 4 seater as it has two buckets in the back. There’s no 5th seat. Loads of legroom for a coupe, but with my hight not enough headroom in the back. Will do fine for people under 180-185 cm though.

So true,

Oh the insurance talk, how I never tire of bitching about it. As you probably know, insurance quotes in the UK are out of control and if you don’t, here are mine for a wide selection of 1.4-1.6 hatchbacks.
Further context being that I’m 23, have had a licence for almost 4 years and most importantly live in London which and I’m not joking here is the worst place in the entire country to get insurance but it doesn’t end there, no, no, no. I live in the worst part of London for car insurance with my borough having an F* rating on a scale that ends at F-. Sigh.
So what does this have to do with seats. Well insurance companies generate their rates based on various factors such as accident causes, thefts and claiming in general. London sucks when it comes to all of those but one particular problem we have here is when too many dipshits get into car together, distracting the driver and crashing into a double decker bus. So I thought why don’t I try 2 seater cars only and wouldn’t you know.
MGF: £1,000
NB MX5: £1,100
MK3 MR2: £1,200
Audi TT: £3,300
Audi TT Roadster: £1,700! Almost half the price because it doesn’t have two unusable back seats.
So yeah as far as the insurance companies are concerned less seats mean less people therefore less chance of distraction and less bus crashing.
![]() 05/31/2016 at 19:40 |
|
From all those cars the TT is also the only one with a fixed roof. You’ve made sure this is due to the number of seats, not due to convertibles being cheaper to insure?

I approve of all Xantia love.

Hydropneumatic. Nitrogen acts as the spring, LHM as the shock absorber.

Doesn’t America have Fiat?
![]() 05/31/2016 at 19:46 |
|
Yeah. I tried Saabs, Golfs and BMWS 3ers to make sure. To be honest I should of realised this caveat sooner given the shit ton of DVLA adverts saying “Don’t distract the driver” and the numerous attempts to bring in legislation to stop new drivers driving with passengers. Plus news of car crashes in London are always deaths as opposed to a death.
![]() 05/31/2016 at 19:49 |

Fiat right? Is that your final answer?

Is there a loophole for cars that have their back seats removed?
![]() 05/31/2016 at 19:50 |

That’s a van. It requires commercial vehicle insurance.
